Dear guests,
(I'm sorry this in not in the French language but I'm studying/learning your language right now)
As owner of BMX Museum NL I feel and have the need to react on this topic.
First of all let me introduce myself. I'm 40 years young, married and 3 kids. In the '80 BMX was everything for me. We designed our own BMX track and build it together with our parents in those days. I spend a lot ot time on the track just racing and trying to beat the others.
I was not a topper, absolutely not, but I loved (and still love) this BMX sport. I spended to much time in those days so the study went completely wrong so I had to stop BMX racing and that hurts.
So 20 years later I started to search my own 1984 GT Pro Series which I still didn't find.... During this search I've found a lot of Old School bikes/frames/parts which I started to collect and to buy. After 50 bikes/frames I decided to set-up a real BMX Museum NL. It took me 6 years to collect the items, it took me 2 years to start this BMX Museum NL. And yes, I'm proud of it, it is there now.
My BMX Museum NL contains a lot of brands; MBK, Hutch, Skyway, National Pro, PK Ripper, Quadangle, Redline, Patterson, Raleigh, Vector, Wheels, Profile, GHP, Mongoose, it's almost all there. (Still no CW Phaze one....)
When I started (6 years ago) only JJR and me were searching for old bikes on the internet. No problems at all. Sometimes I've "won", sometimes Johan "won".
2 years back several guys started to collect Old School bikes also so the "competition" started which was a pity for Johan and for me... but that's live..... prices raised.
But why this JJR topic on this forum? I think I know why.
The competition is getting harder as I told you. But people who are selling their bikes often likes the idea that their bike will be in my BMX Museum NL. So they sell their bike to me or even donate/give it to me. And this hurt for other collectors.
The Old School BMX scene in the Neterlands is bigger as you should think. Yes, I agree, on our forum are not that many guests and always the same one but I receive a lot of remarks/compliments/questions via my emailaddress so there's still a scene over here, absolutely.
After the opening of BMX Museum NL last Sunday by Mr. Gerrit Does I already received a lot of positive remarks so the scene is still alive.
No it's not an obsession, and no I'm not selfish, but I want to have the best Old School BMX collection/museum in the Netherlands, that's my drive.
The reason why I'm "fast" during the day on internet is because of the fact people send me sms's and/or emails when there's something special on the net. They inform and support me, I'm not searching at all during my work on the internet, because they like to see my BMX Museum NL to grow.
Collecting over 6 years means you can have a lot of stuff because I needed from every brand at least one bike. So I get a lot of questoins of people asking me if I like to sell parts and/or bikes. My answer is NO because I'm not a trader, I'm a collector, so no selling, exchanging parts is possible with closed wallets. So people get irritated because they say "you already have a lot", not knowing it cost me a lot of time to search for those parts and to pick them up all over Europe. It's not that easy as you all know. No selling means "troubles" and that means irritations over here as it looks know....
In his topic Johan didn't mention I've offered him to put (some) of his great bikes in my museum because he really has a great collection, no doubt about! Must be said. I also gave him some Kuwahara decals to finish one of his projects.
The 50/50 deal is quiet complicated but in some few words; he bougth the Hutch pedals of this deal and I bought the whole package, not knowning at that moment that the pedals already where sold by the seller. But the seller made a package deal for me, including those pedals and I accepted it. After the deal was made and paid I understood JJR bought the pedals. And that ended up killing our relationship between JJR and me.
The text on the internet which JJR showed you in Dutch is not an advertisment which I've put on the internet. It was done by somebody else. I didn't take it away (I even can't) and I didn't complain (that's not my style).
It's a pitty that this personal story/irritations ended up as a topic in a French forum. I'm glad I was informed that this discussion was going on on this form, because I really didn't know, so that I can react on this topic harming my BMX Museum dream and thoughts.
I now take to change to invite you all in the French Old School BMX scene to see my BMX Museum NL when ever you're in The Netherlands. I thnk it will be bringing some good memories for you.
Maybe we even can arrange a Museum and track tour over here with old school bikes? So that you take your bikes with you and we'll look for tracks over here where we can race, make pictures and most important of all can have a laugh! Because that's all about. I don't like to "fight" at all, I like to have a good time with my
BMX Museum NL.
Please feel free to react/reply on my topic.
Best regards,
Mike Janssen
